- Conducted a needs assessment of the ESL students and the English instructors, using surveys and interviews.

Language Assessment
Dordt College, ESL Department (September 2012 – December 2012)
- Designed an ESL placement exam assessing five constructs (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar).
- Created the scoring criteria (objective & subjective) for each subtest and piloted the test with the ESL students.
- Conducted reliability tests for the objectively scored subtests using the split-half method and interrater reliability.

Bilingual Verbal Ability Test (BVAT) (September 2012 – December 2012)
- Reviewed the BVAT, a specialized assessment tool to measure the bilingual ability of individuals.
- Analyzed the test content, administration, validity, scoring and interpretation, and constructs (Wesche’s four components & Swain’s four principles of communicative language testing).

Applied Linguistics Research
Education First & Intensive English Yokohama Program (January 2012 – May 2013)
- Education First: Conducted a mixed-method quasi-experimental study, exploring the difference in the post-questionnaire level of motivation of students who were engaged in regular goal-setting and reflection (GSR) activities versus those who did not receive the GSR activities.
- Intensive English Program: Examined the difference in the level of motivation between pre- and post-participation of students who were engaged in GSR activities, using teacher and students’ journals, as well as interviews.
